For the dad who says he needs nothing
Dads are hard to shop for because they say they do not need anything, and they mean it. What they do not have is a book in which they are the hero. You answer questions about him, the job he complains about and secretly loves, the boat he never bought, the advice he gives whether or not anyone asked, and the novel is built from that.
Choose the genre. A Life Story that follows his life the way his kids saw it, an adventure that takes his real skills somewhere bigger, a comedy built on his own material, or a mystery where his stubborn attention to detail finally pays off. Fourteen genres, and he is the lead.
You can involve the whole family in the answers, and put everyone's names in the dedication. Preview the story and pick the cover before you pay. Free standard shipping in the US, faster options at checkout.
Three books with dad as the main character
Dad Jokes: The Novel
A comedy narrated by a man who believes his jokes are good. The family disagrees, on the record, in every chapter. By the end, they are quoting him.
Where He Learned It
A Life Story that follows him from the boy in the old stories to the father you know, built from what your family remembers and what he taught without meaning to.

The Gift They Never Stop Talking About
Real words from our customers, shared with their permission
When it came to writing and putting my vision onto paper, I faced significant challenges. BeTheAuthor gave me a way to bring my ideas to life... It helped shape and refine what I was trying to express without losing the heart of my story. This isn't just a platform to me, this is the doorway to success.

I absolutely love the book. Thank y'all so much, you did a fantastic job putting my words together. The way you put the entire storyline together absolutely captured my son and his dogs, exactly what they are. My family that has read these two books wants to keep them.

Questions families ask before making a book for dad
Yes, and a book about your dad is better when the whole family answers for it. Collect stories from everyone before you start, then answer the questions in one sitting. The dedication page is a good place to name everyone who contributed.
A book about you is different from a book in general. Every chapter is about him and the people he knows, so he is not reading a stranger's story; he is checking whether the book got his right, which is a hard thing to put down.
Choose the Life Story genre. The story follows the shape of his life using the details you provide, written as a narrative rather than a list of facts. It is still a story, so it reads like a book and not a timeline.
Hardcover looks like something that belongs on a shelf, which suits a dad who keeps things. Paperback is lighter and travels better. Both printed editions include the digital copy, so the rest of the family can read along.
The Digital Edition is $29, the Paperback is $39 and the Hardcover is $59. Both printed editions include the digital copy, and standard shipping within the US is free.
