Every BeTheAuthor book starts with up to 10 questions.
Each answer maps to something specific in the story. Here's what the AI does with each one.
Job or profession
Becomes the source of unique skills woven through the story. A teacher brings patience and context. A firefighter brings reflexes and courage. The job shapes what they can do when things get hard.
Hobbies
Get incorporated into key scenes and settings. Hiking becomes the backdrop for a crucial conversation. Baking becomes a moment of calm. Hobbies add texture and make the world feel real.
Family
Featured as important supporting characters across chapters. Their relationships, conflicts, and loyalties drive the emotional stakes. Family defines who they fight for.
Biggest dream
Informs the story's ultimate goal or emotional climax. A dream of opening a vineyard suggests patience and soil. A dream of hiking the Camino suggests pilgrimage and reckoning.
Origin or where they're from
Becomes setting and backstory. The place they grew up in, the accents they hear, the landscape that shaped them. Geography informs character.
Catchphrase or what they always say
Included in dialogue for authentic character voice. When the AI writes a line they would actually say, the reader recognizes them. It makes the character feel real.
Funny habit
Creates recurring character moments readers recognize. The person who always loses their keys. The one who hums when nervous. Habits add personality without exposition.
Area of expertise
Their knowledge becomes crucial at a key plot moment. The doctor who saves someone. The historian who spots the clue. Expertise pays off when it matters.
Favorite place or memory
Becomes a meaningful setting or emotional anchor. A place they love appears in the story. A memory echoes in a scene. The past informs the present.
What makes them special
Their “superpower” in overcoming challenges. Maybe it's persistence. Maybe it's empathy. This is what the story ultimately celebrates.
Minimum vs maximum
Only one answer is required. But more answers mean a richer book. The AI has more to work with, more details to weave, more opportunities to surprise the reader with something that feels like them.
Tips
Be specific. Use names. Include quirks. The best answers are concrete — “raises her niece, brother passed away five years ago” rather than “has family.” Detail is what makes the book theirs.
